We’re looking for an ML engineer to partner with our head of AI to push this shift forward. This is a high-leverage role: you’ll have direct access to the leadership team, your ideas will actually shape the product, and you won’t be blocked by layers of process or politics. Unlike a typical early-stage startup, Sundial is already funded, has paying enterprise customers, and is deployed with real users today. You’ll be building in an environment where the work matters immediately and where your impact will be visible from day one.

Experienced ML Engineer/Researcher with 3+ years in industry applying AI and NLP in production.
Hold a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or related field. Equivalent work experience will also suffice; we are more concerned with your ability to think rather than your pedigree.
Have strong programming skills in Python, and familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as JAX or PyTorch.
Familiar with cloud APIs, cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and enterprise integrations
Published scientific research at top tier AI conferences like *ACL, COLM, ICML and ICLR
Proven track record of leading successful AI/ML research projects in a production environment

Taking Research to Production: Balance exploration against shipping to achieve meaningful customer impact. Prototype innovative features, and deploy them into reliable and scalable AI experiences with live users.
Model Training & Development: Prompt and post-train LLMs using parameter efficient techniques, leverage historical + synthetically generated data, and architect reasoning AI systems.
Data & Systems Management: Design and build MLOps pipelines to monitor model performance and data drift. Provide guidance on optimizing the process for scale.
Team Building & Mentorship: Recruit, mentor, and provide technical guidance to develop a strong AI/ML engineering team.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Clearly explain technical concepts to teams spanning engineering, product, data, and execs to deliver AI solutions aligned with user and business needs; contribute to AI strategy.
